I think it is total fate that I am a fan of Super Junior. Of course, 2-3 members (if you consider Catholics to be Christians) are not believers, the rest are at least Protestants.
What Christian values did I learn from Super Junior (and this is real talk, no joke.)
- Forgiveness/ Letting go: Kangin's situation w/ hit and run and assault at a bar. The other members were very forgiving for it. They still consider him a brother. They did not shun him off.
- Community: I have to emphasize this 1000000000000000000000000 times. They are band of brothers (like that War World II movie.) They have known each other for 10+ years, and the friendship is still going stronger. I feel like they are a community that I rarely see and hear.
- Patience despite obstacles - The have patience. They went against odds w/ so much situations. I am sure they have received a lot of bashings. I am sure that they a good # of antis. 13 boys? What good are they? something like that. They got a lot of criticism for the songs. From Heechul's surgery, to Donghae's father's death, Kyuhyun's almost fatal accident, to protest of the addition of Henry and Zhoumi, to Kangin's recent mistakes, to Hangeng's HUGE legal contract issues.. I mean it take a lot of patience to stand strong as they have lasted for 5 years so far since their debut. They have shown deep platonic love for each other (trust me, they are all straight men.) It's amazing. I have seen this tremendous love for each other (platonic) that I rarely see it in my own life. This is major reason why I am a huge fan.
- The whole idea of body of Christ- I don't know if this will make sense but they are all talented in different ways. They all come in different shapes and sizes (even physically speaking.) They ALL have very, very unique personalities. They are so ridiculously different. One's a pretty boy, one is a tough macho man, another is a special weirdo, another is the leader, another is a charismatic dude, another is the sensitive soul, another is a vain guy with a sarcastic sense of humor, another is a comedian, one is atheist, and another is a very devout Christian. I mean how does 13 such different young men end up together, stick by each other for 10+ years? Miracles happen. I don't think people would ever understand how much they have taught me. They never met me. I never met them. They are not just cute, handsome boys w/ sterling smiles. ! They are not just cutesy songs. ! They have different gifts. Because they are musical group, they all are talented in singing and dancing; but still, they carry off different airs. I am amazed.
- I am amazed by their child-like hearts. Their innocence. One could argue that they may act differently off camera, but still. The image still rubs off. And I dont' think they are just images. I think they are genuinely childlike. One could argue that they are "sheltered." there is nothing wrong w/ being sheltered. Life is full of pain and grief. don't know why "being sheltered" has a negative connotation. It's better to be full of joy and happiness, even if that means being "sheltered."
- Appreciation for life and their fans- They show it. Appreciation for fans. They are always thanking (for those who are believers) God for the opportunity that was given to them. They always appreciate life. They always have that carpe diem spirit. of course, it's easier for them because if you have 10000000000000000 girls chasing after you; well, that is besides the point.
